Training the owner is just as important as training his or her dog. That's really because an owner must train himself, before he can effectively attempt to train his dog. Your dog needs to get plenty of exercise. Dogs can easily get bored. A dog without interest in what you're doing is more difficult to train. Dogs are more inclined to obey when they are regularly taken out for exercise and happily accepted as a member of your family. Get out for some long walks and runs with your dog.

When approaching a dog you've never met, approach them slowly and offer them the back of a hand to smell. This lets the dog get accustomed to your smell and he will be more trusting towards you. Dogs are more likely to be friendly and obedient if they recognize you.

Take the time to teach your dog how to behave when on a leash. This is important for the safety of your pet, and it is also beneficial for you as well.

Begin training your dog with a task that will be simple for him to learn. Smaller, more easily learned behaviors are more likely to produce timely successes and a solid foundation for future training efforts. This will give you positive results from the onset.

Have a blast during each training session with your dog. Playful interaction strengthens the bond between you, and will have your dog striving even harder to please you during training. While training can be considered fun, be prepared to spend some time just playing as well.

You need to be use rewards and positive reinforcers when you are training your pet. You can use treats, toys, positive speech and even belly rubs. Do not ever scream at or strike your dog. This teaches your dog nothing and will just show him that you do not know how to train him. Stay consistent and use positive reinforcement.

Try to keep accidents at a minimum when toilet training your dog. Sometimes, your dog will have triggers for when its that time. Some of the most common and obvious displays include whining, sniffing and pacing. When you see this, don't delay. Get his leash and take him out to his designated toilet spot! Praise your dog when he does his business where he is supposed to. Soon, he'll get the picture that he can ask to go outside.

Let your dog get used to triggers that make them bark to reduce the behavior. Everything from a sound to a particular person could be a trigger. Once the dog is acclimated, he'll begin to see there is not reason to bark.

Train your dog to stop barking with a treat. Every time he barks, tell them the silent order and then treat him. When your dog quits barking, offer him the treat. As time passes your dog will understand that his incessant barking is not allowed.

Now that the people who are interested in training their new pet dog have, hopefully, learned some new tricks, they can proceed to pass them along to their pets. Once a dog is on its way to learning, the owner will begin to appreciate the dedication that he or she has shown for doing the right thing for man's best friend.
