Training Your Dog – A Simple Way To Establish A Proper Relationship

Many people would like to train their own dogs but think it is too hard. This is probably because they don't know how to properly train their dogs. If you want to train your dog well, you must study proven training methods. This article is loaded with useful tips and ideas that you can incorporate into your training approach.

Make sure that your dog stays in a relaxed area. Your pet needs play time (and you might too), but your pet needs to be calm when you step into rooms most of the time. Try not to acknowledge your pet when you set foot into rooms, and this can imbue calm environments most of the time, since your dog will wait for you to start play time.

Give your dog more freedom as he or she gets further along in the training program. This balance between obedience and freedom will provide your dog with a very satisfying life. Just make sure your dog is properly trained before giving him so much slack.

A consistent schedule of feeding and potty-time is very important when house training your dog. This can train your dog to whine or come get you when he feels the urge, so you can let him out and prevent him from doing his business inside. This will also teach your dog “hold it” until her next trip outside.

Whenever the dog jumps upon you, grab its paws and give them a soft squeeze so they know it is not okay to jump on humans. This won't hurt your dog, but it will give them an uncomfortable feeling that will help teach them not to do it again. They learn that if they want to avoid that discomfort, they need to refrain from jumping up.

Avoid accidents when toilet training your puppy. Be able to tell when your dog has to go out. If your dog is pacing or whining, you need to take them outside. Do not hesitate when you see your dog do that. Quickly leash your pet and lead him to an area where he can relieve himself. Praise him for a job well done. Do this consistently and he will always let you know when he needs to go outside.

Use your dog's name often to ensure you have its attention. Use it constantly in the first few weeks that you have your dog: your puppy should associate this sound with paying attention to you. It is important to use a name the dog easily understands.

It is important for you to teach your dog good behavior habits from the beginning. It is easier to teach a dog good habits right from the start, rather than trying to break bad habits that have already been learned. Giving your dog scraps from the table is just training the dog that begging gets results, so don't do it!

It's a good idea to keep in mind the number of treats you are giving your dog throughout the day. Giving him too many will add unneeded calories to his diet and cause him to become overweight. When trying to feed their dogs a healthy diet, many people do not count the calories in the treats. These can add up fast.

Hopefully with this knowledge, you will be more confident in training your dog. You have learned some good information here, but remember to expand your knowledge with new information and use it when you can so you can begin seeing results soon.
