Training Your Dog As Effectively As Possible

Everyone loves having a dog. They bring so much joy into our lives and a lot of love. Raising a puppy at home can result in a ton of work. Training is a necessary part of a puppy. By using the advice from this article, you will soon find that your dog is trained in no time.

Rewards are essential to effective training. Giving you pet treats in a timely manner is very important. Your dog does not know why they are getting the reward unless you do it right after the positive behavior.

Avoid costly training tools such as shock collars. They don't often work well and cost more than training methods which are conventional. If you start using these methods, your dog will not be responsive to anything else. In short, using techniques like this could have negative effects.

Limit the time of your training sessions with your dog so he doesn't lose focus. It is possible that your dog will lose interest if it is made to do the same thing over and over. Keep first training lessons to 10 minutes or less.

If your dog leaps on you, hold his paws and squeeze them a little so he will know this is not acceptable. This will not hurt him, but it is quite uncomfortable. Before long, you dog will stop his jumping on people altogether.

Make a point to enjoy your time with your dog while you are training. The two of you playing together will help build a strong bond, and that will encourage your dog to positively respond to the training. Although training itself is fun, it is good to spend time each day just playing with your dog because you can.

When you are in the initial stages of training your puppy, teach him his name first to help create a bond. Repeat the name as much as possible, and reward your puppy when he responds. This is the first set of commands you should teach your new puppy. Make sure to spend time with your dog in order for him to learn and trust you. This will help them become more receptive to harder training later.

Your dog will behave well if you keep reinforcing your training. A dog's learning doesn't stop when it leaves its puppy stage. By reinforcing their behavior, you can ensure you dog will continue to obey. Also, by disciplining negative behaviors you can ensure your dog will be well behaved.

Stop your pup from chewing on an object that they shouldn't be if you catch them doing that. That way your puppy will learn what it is allowed to chew on, and it will not be as likely to chew on the wrong things when you cannot keep a close eye on him.

Be consistent when training a dog. Being consistent pertains to words used for commands you want the dog obeying, to the words's tone, and to rewards you provide the dog if he completes the command you teach him successfully.

Take the tips you have just learned and get busy training your dog. Keep your patience high and your love flowing to a well-behaved dog. It will take a lot of work, but eventually all of your hard work will pay off.
