Training Your Dog In A Few Easy Steps

Canine training can be one of the most important investments that you make in your dog. The rewards for a well-trained dog are many, both for you and your pet. A disciplined dog will give your family years of enjoyment. The piece that follows is full of information about the important role training your dog can play.

You can show your dog how to do tricks, get some treats. Begin by getting the dog to lay down. Next, hold the treat close to the floor on one side of the dog's head, and slowly bringing it upwards and over to the dog's other side. Ideally, your dog will use his nose to follow the treat, rolling his whole body in the process. Be sure to say ROLL OVER as your dog is rolling. Eventually, he will learn to perform the trick upon command. Do not get mad if it takes several tries. Once they learn this particular trick, they will be popular at the dog park!

Be cognitive of the duration of time you and your dog devote to training sessions. Spending too long on training exercises will start to bore the dog. Start off with individual training periods of no more than 10 minutes.

Training methods you use should be consistent. If you have a large family ensure everyone is involved with the canine training. When a dog only associates one word with each action, it is easier on him.

Use your dog's name as much as you can to make sure he is paying attention. Use it as often as possible when you have your puppy during the first weeks, the puppy will make the connection. Choose a short name that is easily recognizable from other words.

Accidents will happen when a puppy is being potty trained. To help your training stay on track, clean up any messes right away. Animals are inclined to eliminate repeatedly in spots where they can smell urine or feces, and carpets require special care. There are a wide variety of odor control products designed to address just this situation, so head to the pet shop and ask about them.

You should always try to be aware of any other dogs when you are going for a walk with your dog. Certain dogs often display aggression, and it can be dangerous to make the assumption that all dog owners have done the right thing regarding training. If you come across a dog that seems aggressive avoid it.

Don't reward or ignore bad behavior because you want to put a stop to it. This just teaches the dog what it can do and what power it has over you. For example, this occurs when you give a dog a treat every time it makes loud noises.

Is your dog getting all their required nutrients? A dog who is not eating a healthy diet is much more prone to hyperactivity, bad behavior and aggressiveness. There are specialty foods available for individual dog breeds. You can try one of these if your dog's energy seems low. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Having been said before, getting a dog trained will be a great investment. Poorly trained dogs cause stress and damage, which will make both you and the dog miserable. By learning the tips here, you will choose wisely and help your pet become a lovable animal.
