Training Your Dog Tips And Techniques For Easier Training

All dogs need to be trained to learn good behaviors and prevent bad ones. This article is designed to get you started on training your dog properly.

Never chain two dogs too close to each other. One dog's chain might become entangled with the other, which could lead to serious injuries. If one dog happens to be much larger than the other, the small dog could get tangled to the point that it could choke to death.

Your dog must realize that you are the leader of the pack. He needs to know that you are the authority before he will let you train him. In practice, this means that you should walk ahead when walking your dog, for instance, rather than allowing him or her to take the lead.

Training a dog to roll over is a pretty simple task, just make sure to have a few treats handy! Start by getting the dog to lay down. Next, you must hold one treat close to the floor off to one side of their head and slowly bring it up and over the dog's head to the opposite side. He should roll his body over while following the treat. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. It will probably take multiple attempts, but you will be the talk of the town when the trick is learned.

Once your pet is able to progress through training sessions, you'll be able to loosen the reins somewhat. Maintaining a proper balance between obeying your commands and having some freedom will lead to a happier dog. Don't give too much at any one time, of course, or it could take your training back a step.

Remember it is important to be patient when you are training your dog. This prevents both of you from getting irritated and angry with the training. Your dog wants to do what you ask him to, but you have to give him the commands in a way in which he understands what is expected.

Exercise your dog at least an hour everyday in addition to its regular potty breaks outside. If they are well-exercised, then you will have more efficient training. Fit dogs are happy and responsive to you.

Call for your dog the same way every time. Start each command by calling the dog's name. This will get his attention, and then you can tell him what to do. Dogs that are properly trained will respond when their name is said.

Your dog will behave well if you keep reinforcing your training. Dogs do not cease learning after puppyhood. Your dog will continue to be obedient if you use reinforcements. Continuing discipline with them will reduce the chances of bad behavior appearing.

Does your dog have a problem with biting furniture or even other people? If so, then spray them with a mist of water. Then your dog learns some things aren't ok. Before you know it, your dog will cease the biting behavior and just be playful.

Don't ever reward destructive or bad behavior. This method will only result in the dog learning to do what it pleases. For instance, avoid giving treats to calm a barking dog.

Without proper training, dogs can be destructive in the home. Armed with these tips, you should be adequately prepared to work with your dog, providing valuable skills and behavioral guidance.
