Training Your Dog? Try These Ideas For 100% Success

A lot of people who have pets find that they love them as much as some family members! Raising a puppy is hard work. Training your puppy takes a lot of time. Use these tips on a consistent basis and you will see a trained dog in no time at all.

While training your puppy or dog to use a crate, introduce him to new concepts slowly and gradually, so he is able to adjust to the changes without feeling stressed. When they've settled down with the gate open, slowly shut it and pass treats through the gate. Keep them in the crate for a small duration and slowly increase that duration. If they become upset, you are moving too fast.

Do not tie a couple of dogs closely together. It is possible for the chains to become intertwined, and the animals can be hurt as they try to get free. For example, a large dog could tangle the chain with a smaller dog, wrapping the chain around the neck of the small dog, causing it to die.

The first step in dog training is commanding control. The dog will have little respect for you and it won't obey if you do not show that you are the one in charge. Always walk ahead of your dog when you go on walks, as this establishes that you hold a position of leadership.

Once your pet is able to progress through training sessions, you'll be able to loosen the reins somewhat. It is important that you reach a balance between freedom and obedience in order to establish a satisfying relationship. Do not allow them freedom all at once, they might lose what they learned.

Canine training starts with patience. Using patience helps prevent frustration for both you and the dog. Don't forget that dogs aim to please, however they often don't understand what you want.

Dogs need at least 60 minutes of exercise time every day, on top of training and bathroom breaks. You need to ensure your dog is exercising, you will get more out of training them. When your dog is exercised, he is also happy.

Use positive reinforcements when training your dog. Your dog should be rewarded with both small treats and happy words. You should never yell at your dog, or physically harm them. This doesn't work well and only succeeds in teaching your dog that its master is out of control. You should talk to them in a stern voice but always be nice to them if they do a good thing.

As soon as you get your puppy, the first thing to teach him/her is their name; this will help build a bond between animal and human. Use his name as often as possible, and help him learn to come when you call him by it. Your puppy's name should be one of its first words learned. Try to spend a good amount of time with your new dog. More advanced training will be much easier later if your dog trusts and loves you.

Because you now have some excellent tips on training your puppy, utilize them. Take time to show him what you expect of him and be patient as he learns. It will take a lot of work, but eventually all of your hard work will pay off.
