An effective training program translates to a happy pet and an equally happy pet owner. When your dog is well-trained, both of you will fully understand what behaviors are acceptable. After training your dog, you will feel more comfortable when you have visitors, take him out for walks, or leave him alone at home. Though it might seem like a difficult task, you and your dog will have many rewarding times together, sharing the tricks and companionship that you've come to know through the training your dog sessions.
Consistency is key in crate training a puppy. Shortly after you allow your puppy to exit the crate, he must be given the chance to relieve himself in the designated area. The dog will eventually learn that there are proper times to go outside and use the restroom.
You can train a pooch to roll over fairly quickly if you have some treats to hand out. Initially, try to get your dog to lay on the floor. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog's head and move it around it's face to the other side. He'll follow your hand and roll over completely. When they roll over, yell “roll over.” Keep doing this until they do it just with the command. Do not let a lack of early success frustrate you. This takes repetition to nail down, but once you do, you will have the star dog on the block.
When giving a command to your dog, you should always use the exact same kind of voice and the same volume. This tone tells the dog that you mean business and that they need to obey. The dog will also know the difference when you give them discipline as opposed to a command.
Have a treat prepared for rewarding your dog when they follow a command properly. You want to be able to reward your dog when he does what you want him to do. This will teach your dog what behavior is correct and expected.
Let any dog you approach sniff your hand first so he can smell you. This gives the dog the opportunity to recognize your scent and start to trust you. Once a dog is used to your scent, it will trust you and obey your orders.
Canine training is big on making rules for the relationship just like you would with people, you will have such a better time with each other once the rules are in place. Keep reinforcing what you have taught your dog. Provide refresher courses when needed and continue to correct bad behavior. Once your dog is able to understand the basics, you and your dog are limitless as to what tricks and behaviors can be achieved.
