To have a happy life with your dog, you need to make sure that it is properly trained. When your dog is well-trained, then both you and your dog will know exactly what is expected from each other. With a dog who has been trained, you can be confident about leaving him at home without supervision, having guests in your home and taking him along with you in public places. The time spent training a dog is paid back tenfold during your dog's lifetime. Training is not easy, but it is very rewarding.
Make it clear to your dog that their crate is their home. When you feed him, feed him inside the crate, and keep the door open while he is in there eating. They'll build a positive view of the crate this way.
There are many different approaches that can be used to crate train a new puppy. To entice a hesitant puppy into the crate, give it the incentive of a toy or bone inside, with the door shut. As soon as they smell the tempting treat, they will want to get into the crate to enjoy it. After they enter the crate, be sure to give them love and attention to let them know they did something to please you.
You need to adhere to a specific feeding routine for your dog. Teaching your dog to realize that when you place its food bowl down, it will be removed within 10-15 minutes, will help it understand that there is a feeding schedule to stick to. Remove the bowl when he is done eating.
Do not tie up your dogs too closely. The dogs could get wrapped up and they may be injured. It can even be fatal if you tie a large dog up with a small dog, and the large dog ends up getting a chain wrapped around the small dog's neck.
You will have to repeat commands several times before your dog learns it. It is not uncommon for it to take between 25 to 50 repetitions of the same command for your dog to learn it. Keep working patiently on the command- he'll get it with time.
When training, find a verbal clue your pet can understand so they will know exactly when to do as you say. One good word can act as an appreciated segue from the good behavior to the ultimate reward.
Mastering the “leave it” directive is an excellent starting point for your training sessions. This command instructs the dog to release an object and then retreat from it. Teaching them to “leave it” will stop them from destructive chewing and coming in contact with something that could potentially hurt them.
Prior to training your puppy, make a bond with your dog by teaching him what his name is. Call his name every time you do something or want him to do something. Teach him that he needs to run to you when his name is called. These are the first few commands your new puppy needs to learn. Spending a lot of time interacting and playing with your puppy is the best way to establish a bond of love and trust. If the puppy trusts you, he will be easier to train later.
