Unruly Dog? Have We Got Some Advice For You!

There is no denying the ability of dogs and puppies to win the hearts of many. Welcome to the world of owning a dog! If you train your dog well, you will have a friend for life. When your pet knows what is expected and behaves as such, it is much easier for you to accept him and show your love. This article will give you plenty of help when it comes to creating a relationship with your pet that is fulfilling for you both.

If you are keeping your dog in a crate, it's important that you utilize tips for helping them realize this is their home. You should place the food bowl inside the crate and leave the door of the crate open while they eat their food. This will cause them to associate good things, such as eating, with their crate.

Right at the moment they do the behavior you are trying to reinforce, give the verbal command of approval. The word “yes” may serve as a good gap-filler in between the dog's good behavior and the giving of the reward.

When training your dog, one of the first commands they should be aware of is the “drop” command, which lets them know they should drop any items they have in their mouth. You can use this command for a number of purposes. For example, it is used to prevent the dog from chewing on something or even to guide them out of harm's way.

Training Sessions

Do not have overly long training sessions. Your pet probably lacks a generous attention span, making it more likely that he will thrive on brief training sessions. If more training is desired, work in some break times so your dog can play before continuing with training.

Teach your dog no response is needed for the word ‘no'. Stick to positive training methods, as they can help the most. When you say ‘no', your dog isn't understanding how it should respond to you. Make sure that your training regimen is unique to your specific dog.

Use the dog's name as much as possible to ensure that it pays attention. Use his name more when he is a puppy. By the time he is grown, he will automatically give you his attention when you say his name. Choose a puppy name that sounds differently than other words your puppy may hear throughout the day.

It is not good for a puppy to train too often, it will wear it out if it has to process too much information. Puppies have short attention spans and they cannot focus too much, so have shorter sessions and try to be positive during them every time. Overdoing it could cause them to forget what was learned, and they may see the training as negative; thus, making sessions harder for you later.

These tips should really help you gain training confidence. Use whatever information that will work for your circumstances. If you are not already attached to your dog, you soon will be. Training is the way to have success. A well trained pet is a happy pet. Congrats on your new companion!
