Want Your Dog To Be Better Trained? Follow These Handy Tips!

A well-trained dog is essential in keeping a clean house. But some people do not know how to go about training their dogs. It is best to get as much information as possible regarding puppy training. Continue reading to learn some excellent advice on how to achieve a well-mannered dog.

Do not tie up your dogs too closely. The chain of one dog could become wrapped around the other and, as the dogs struggle to free themselves, one or both could be injured. In the worst case, a large dog might be able to strangle or crush a smaller one, entirely by accident, while trying to free itself.

Don't reinforce your dog's negative behavior by accident. This means you must not reward your dog with attention or treats for doing something you don't want it to do. For instance, if your dog does not sit when commanded, do not rub his head affectionately unless he actually sits.

Training your pet to roll over very easy. Just remember to have treats in hand. Start by commanding the animal to lie down. The next step is to hold a treat close to the floor by the dog's head then continue to move the treat over his head until you reach the other side. Your dog is probably going to follow the treat in your hand with his nose, which means he will rollover his whole body. Whenever your dog does actually roll over, say “roll over” out loud. Repeating this over time forms a mental association in your dog's mind that eventually causes him to roll over on command. Have patience since your dog may not get the trick quickly. However, once he does, he'll be the center of attention at the dog park.

Approach an unknown dog slowly and let him smell your outstretched hand. Doing so builds up trust with the dog. After your dog gets your scent, it will no longer fear you and will follow commands better.

You need to teach your dog right away that they should drop or back away from something when you say “leave it.” You can use this command for a number of purposes. For example, it is used to prevent the dog from chewing on something or even to guide them out of harm's way.

If your dog is a jumper, squeeze his paws when he jumps on you to let him know he cannot do this any longer. If done lightly, it won't hurt the dog, but it'll make them uncomfortable. After a while, they'll stop jumping due to this uncomfortable feeling.

When training your dog, make it fun for the both of you. The dog will respond more positively to training if you create a better bond between you and them. Training is fun for the dog, but you should set aside some real “play time” as well.

Identify what exactly it is that your dog is always barking at to help curb the behavior. Whether your dog barks in response to other dogs, people, certain sounds or something else, it is important to habituate him to this circumstance. Once the dog is acclimated, he'll begin to see there is not reason to bark.

Hopefully, the tips from this article will aid you in your quest for a cleaner house through training your dog. Once you create new ways to train your dog and use them consistently, your dog will exhibit good behaviors.
