You Need This Article If You Have A Rowdy Pooch

Your dog is a member of your family. Unfortunately, the dog does not like your things as much as you do; most of the things left out are chewable to a dog. The piece that follows includes time-tested tactics for preventing your dog's chewing habit.

A main focus of training is timing your sessions appropriately. Shorter training sessions are better at the beginning of your program. When the animal appears to lose interest, you will know which duration produces the best results per session.

Feeding Schedule

Get your dog into a feeding routine. Train your dog to understand that you are going to remove their food bowl upon fifteen minutes of feeding them. This will establish a feeding schedule for your dog. Your dog will soon become accustomed to his feeding schedule and eat quickly.

Do not tie more than one dog in the same area. They could tangle the chains in such a way so that one or both of the dogs are stuck or injured. If a big dog is tangled up with a little one, they may get so wrapped up that air passages are blocked off, and one could potentially die.

It is important to have an appropriately sized dog crate. Puppies will grow up quite quickly. Choose a crate that works both for puppy and mature sizes. The crate should be big enough for the dog to turn and lie down comfortably without feeling cramped.

Avoid reinforcing negative behavior. Essentially, you must not give your dog something positive, like attention or a treat, when it behaves in a way you want to classify as negative. For instance, it will be difficult or impossible to train your dog not to jump on people if you give your pet a friendly neck-scratch when he or she jumps on you.

As your dog gets better with training, you can start to give him or her more freedom. The balance between freedom and obedience can give dogs a great life. Don't give your dog too much free reign though.

When getting closer to a dog, move slowly and let the dog smell your hand. This will give the dog time learn your scent and possibly trust you. When a dog recognizes the scent, they won't fear you and will follow commands.

When training your dog, make sure to have fun with him too. It builds a strong bond between the two of you and encourages them to want to please you. Despite the fun the two of you will have during training, it is important to set aside time that is designated to enjoyment only, with no work or training involved.

When you are walking your dog, be aware of and pay attention to other dogs in the vicinity. Certain dogs often display aggression, and it can be dangerous to make the assumption that all dog owners have done the right thing regarding training. If you see an antisocial or aggressive dog, avoid having your dog be near it.

Dogs need to learn to socialize early in life. You need to show them what is acceptable when they are around people and their pets. Your dog will be better able to handle new situations.

In conclusion, put a stop to your dog chewing on your items. Your dog, then, will be less likely to be injured, and you will not be as frustrated (plus you'll save money). Use the advice from this article to prevent your dog from engaging in destructive behavior.
